How impact statements work
Impacts, impact statements, and the three stages an idea's impact is recorded in.
Impacts are the benefits your organisation wants to measure, such as time saved, money saved or carbon reduced. Your organisation’s admins set them up once for everyone, under Admin › Settings › Impacts.
An impact statement records the impact of one idea. Each challenge chooses which of the organisation’s impacts its statements include, and can offer ready-made options, such as ranges of hours saved, so estimates are easier to give and to compare.
An idea’s impact is recorded in three stages, all using the same statement:
- User estimate: the idea’s author estimates the impact, usually when they submit the idea.
- Project estimate: the challenge’s managers or project team refine the estimate once they’ve looked into the idea, usually on the project board.
- Final outcome: the impact the idea actually had, recorded once it has been put into practice.
Recorded impacts add up across ideas, challenges and the whole organisation, so you can report on the value your challenges deliver.
