Control who can register
Only let people register if their email address or answer matches.
By default, anyone with your login link can register an account with an email address and password. Registration authorisation lets you limit that in one of two ways:
- Email address pattern: only addresses that match, such as your work domain.
- Ask a custom question: only people who give the right answer.
This applies to standard sign-on. People you create or import yourself don’t need to pass it.
Only people whose email address matches the pattern can register, for example everyone with a work address.
In the admin area, open Settings from the side menu.
Open the Sign-on tab.
On the Standard sign-on card, click Manage.
Under Registration authorisation, open Authorisation type and choose Email address pattern.
In Required pattern, enter the part every allowed address contains, such as your email domain: @example.com.
In Custom error message (if wrong), enter what people see when their address doesn’t match.
Click Save changes. Settings updated confirms the change.
People have to answer a question correctly before they can register, for example something everyone in your organisation knows.
In the admin area, open Settings from the side menu.
Open the Sign-on tab.
On the Standard sign-on card, click Manage.
Under Registration authorisation, open Authorisation type and choose Ask a custom question.
In Custom question, enter the question people are asked when they register, for example What is the name of our staff newsletter?
In Required pattern, enter the answer you accept, here Example Weekly. Answers aren’t case-sensitive.
In Custom error message (if wrong), enter what people see when their answer is wrong.
Click Save changes. Settings updated confirms the change.
The required pattern is matched anywhere in the address or answer. It is a regular expression, so you can allow several domains at once, for example @example\.com|@partner\.example.
